Beloved '80's band "Loverboy" brought a blast from the past to Mohegan Sun casino Thursday night as a cheering crowd eagerly greeted the group.
A long awaited reunion was about to begin.
Lead singer Mike Reno was in true form with fabulous vocal range. He encouraged the crowd to join in singing old favorites such as "Turn Me Loose" and "Working for the Weekend".
The unique bond between players mesmerized the packed house as the band performed a new song off its album "Six." "Take Me to the Top" was also an audience pleaser.
Keyboard player Doug Johnson played a variety of recognizable tunes, including the "Charlie Brown" theme and "Over the Rainbow."
Bass player Scott Smith and drummer Matthew Frenette played solos that infused the crowd with a rock'n'roll spirit. Loverboy received several standing ovations throughout their performance.
"The wolf is wagging his tail tonight," said Reno. He also said the favorite song he and the band wrote is "When It's Over," inspired by the Beatles.
At the end of the show, "Turn Me Loose" brought the audience to its feet. It was a night few will forget. The show lasted one hour and twenty minutes.
In 1980 Loverboy introduced its debut album with two huge hits "Turn Me Loose" and "The Kid is Hot" with their career on the rise in 1981.
They had major hits like "Working for the Weekend" and sold an incredible number of tickets to shows throughout North America.
In 1984, singer Mike Reno teamed up with Ann Wilson to sing "Almost Paradise," a hit from the soundtrack of the film "Footloose." In 1985, their fourth record hit the airwaves and they toured the U.S. and Canada.
The Canadian group earned a Crystal Globe Award, selling five million records outside their country.
In 1989, after five successful albums, after five successful albums, the pace caught up with the band and Loverboy took a break from the music industry. In 1992, they reunited for a cancer-stricken friend and captivated their audience.
Paul Dean, Mike Reno, Scott Smith, Doug Johnson and Matt Frenette rekindled their relationship and went back on the road in 1993. In '95 and '96 they headlined shows and co-headlined for Cheap Trick, Foreigner and others.
Loverboy's unmistakable rock sound withstands the test of time. Fans never forgot the high energy the group generated and are glad they're back!
